Course Summary

Learn how to create profound innovation in a time of disruptive change by leading from the emerging future.

Course Description

This highly experiential course is based on Theory U, a framework, method, and way of connecting to the more authentic aspects of our self. It introduces the variable of consciousness into management and the social sciences, and proposes that the quality of the results that we create in any kind of social system is a function of the quality of awareness, attention or consciousness that the participants in the system operate from. This approach to leading change is practiced by business, government, and civil society leaders around the world – many of whom you will meet during this course. During these six weeks, we will look at today’s environmental, social, and spiritual-cultural challenges and explore why it is that our societies collectively create results that, individually, nobody wants. We will introduce you to frameworks that enable you to identify the deeper structures and paradigms of thought that give rise to these issues. And we will invite you into a learning environment that is more personal, practical, relational, mindful, collective, and transformative than what you may have experienced in other online courses.

FAQ

What is the amount of effort required to take this course? To participate fully in the course will take 5-7 hours per week. For those who want to explore the material but have limited time, a 3-5 hour per week option will be available. The key difference will be whether you choose to participate in a coaching circle. What is a coaching circle and how do I join one? A coaching circle is a group of five u.lab participants who meet weekly, virtually (or in-person if possible), to practice the key leadership capacities taught in this course and support each other in developing new ways of thinking about and dealing with their own current leadership challenges. Details on how to join a coaching circle will be made available closer to the start of the course. What if I take a vacation and can’t participate for one of the weeks? Should I still join a coaching circle? If you know in advance that you won’t be available to join a coaching circle one week, we recommend that you bring that up in your coaching circle. Make sure that you can fully join all other sessions. What if the timing of the live classes does not work for me? Within a few days after each live session, highlights will be posted to the course page. Is pre-reading advised/required? None is required, but if you would like to begin pre-reading, we recommend the Introduction through Chapter 2 of Leading from the Emerging Future: From Ego-System to Eco-System Economies (Scharmer & Kaufer, 2013), which is the textbook for this course, which will be available on the course page. Where can I go to find out more about the content? Please visit www.presencing.com. Will I get a certificate Yes! This course awards certificates to all who satisfactorily complete the required portion of the course.
