Course Summary

Are you using the right type of engine oil in your vehicle? Is synthetic, conventional, or blended oil the best? Are there certain oil types that are better than others? Engine type, driving style, weather, and age of vehicle and engine are some of the important factors to consider when selecting the best oil for your vehicle. The misuse of oil can be detrimental to the life of your vehicle. There is much more to oil than meets the eye! In this course, participants will learn about and discuss the following topics: TOPIC 1: ENGINE OIL MYTHS TOPIC 2: ENGINE OIL WEIGHTS & VISCOSITIES TOPIC 3: ENGINE OIL BRANDS & TYPES TOPIC 4: CHOOSING THE BEST OIL FOR YOUR VEHICLE You can earn a Completion Certificate from the University of Northwestern Ohio by earning an 80% or higher on weekly checkpoint quizzes. Plan to spend approximately 2-5 hours in the course each week depending on your learning interests and needs.

Course Instructors

Tom Grothous

Tom has taught at the University of Northwestern Ohio for over 35 years where he now serves as the Academic Dean in the College of Applied Technologies. He is a Master Certified Auto Technician, a Master Certified Diesel Technician, and an Auto and Truck Parts Specialist for ASE. Tom earned his Bachelor of Vocational Education degree from the University of Toledo and his Associate of Applied Business degree from Northwestern College. Tom (a.k.a. Mr. Wheels) is a syndicated host of a Radio Talk Show “Mr. Wheels” on-air live on Saturday mornings and on the web. He also belongs to many civic and career organizations. He and his wife Jackie have been married for 43 years and are the parents of two daughters and the proud grandparents of five./n/n
